![]() ![]() ![]() The 1986 Statue of Liberty Silver Dollar was issued along with a copper nickel clad half dollar and $5 gold coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. This is the first copper-nickel clad half dollar commemorative coin issued. All of these coins enjoy legal tender status. Part of the original purchase price of each coin was used to restore the Statue and Ellis Island, and to create an endowment for the future maintenance of these national monuments. The United States Mint, by an Act of Congress, authorized the minting of three different coins celebrating this great event. ![]() In 1986, we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of The Statue of Liberty. ![]()
